- The Dear Reader introduction introduces the main ideas of this website. It is meant to provide the reader with a glimpse at the three topics this website focuses on, everyday devices, space exploration, and prosthetics. It is also supposed to be a bit of a first impression as to how vast the possibilities are when considering the future of technology and where we can go with it. Many people cannot imagine anything more advanced than what we have now, and I tried to get the reader to open their mind to some new and surprising possibilities of how the future may turn out.
- The narrative provides a tour of how future technology will shape our lives. The narrative shows you the life of an engineer from the future for one day. The main purpose of the narrative was to display many future inventions, mostly everyday devices, and show how large a part they will play in our lives. By putting the reader in the shoes of a man in the future, the reader got to experience just how much further we are still able to go.
- The two-voice poem was meant to highlight the differences between now and the future. It shows some ways in which the future is better than today, including breakthroughs in space exploration, huge advances in medicine, and exciting additions to our commonplace devices. However, the poem also displays how today is better than the future with technology replacing social interactions and people withdrawing within themselves and technology.
- The clip from Back to the Future was a way to visually show the reader the changes that the future will bring. A few of my ideas throughout the website were inspired from the movie, and the clip provided the reader with a first-hand experience in the future. The writing that went along with the clip was from Marty McFly's point of view, McFly is the main character in the movies. However, the point of view can also apply to the reader who is watching the movie while noticing the differences shown between the future and the present.
- The timeline was a genre which fit perfectly with this topic and it highlights the speed at which we have advanced and will advance. Plenty of research went into creating the timeline as I had to find the years when major technological accomplishments took place. I also had to research when future accomplishments are predicted to happen. Near the end of the timeline I wanted to show how powerful technology will be and how much we will have accomplished in just the next 50 years.
- The birthday card was less of a prediction of a future technology and more of an idea that I thought would be viable and fun to have in the future. The overall idea that is being presented by the card is how easy everything will become in the future, and how technology will make everything, even something as simple as buying a present, so much easier. I had to use Visual Basic to create the display of the menu with the different gift options, and then I used Paint to overlap the two images.
- The analysis essay was used to provide the reader with a very important question, whether or not technology will be beneficial. Looking at how much technology will intertwine with our lives in the future, this question has to be analyzed thoroughly. I focused on the three negative effects that I thought would be most important, the loss of jobs, social interaction, and proper physical activity. I then focused on the three topics that the website focuses on, space exploration, everyday devices, and prosthetics, and how advances in those three fields will benefit us later in the future. I had to research quite a bit on how current technology is affecting our lives, both in a good way and a bad way. I tried to get as many real-world examples as possible so that the reader could really connect to the ideas being introduced in the essay. I hope that after reading this piece, the reader realizes that the future will bring both positive and negative consequences and that we all have to act to counteract the negative ones.
